An Easy Way You Can Help Us Help Kids

I went to the Family Dollar and Wal-mart today to gather almost 40 baby bottles. Why would one person with one 10 month old child need 40 baby bottles you ask? Simple… we are asking our friends and family to each take a bottle (or 2, or 5) and fill them with spare change to benefit African orphans. Each bottle is supposed to average about $20 when filled. My goal is to get 50 filled, so we need your help! Will you put one your desk and ask co-workers to put their change from lunch or the coke machine in it? Or maybe you can leave a couple on your kitchen counter and get your kids to see who can fill theirs first as a fun little competition. Or you could even keep one in your glove box to put your change in from Starbucks, the gas station, or McDonald’s.

Willing to help? Please let me know and I will bring you however many of the bottles that you want. Anything you give will go towards our efforts to help these sweet African babies. We pray you will help us, and we thank you SO much!!!!!

Presley’s Growing Up!!

At Presley’s 9 month well visit on Wednesday (the same day she got really sick), we finally got an update on her height and weight. Mommy was WAY off!!

She had to be measured twice for height, so we aren’t totally certain which was right, but she’s between 31-32″ long, putting her in close to the 100% percentile. She only weighed 20 lbs. 6oz., which has her in the 75th percentile as always. The chick got some chunk on her legs, but she’s SO active that I guess she’s burning a lot off everywhere else (many of you have witnessed that recetly).

The doc also said her belly button hernia is getting smaller and will probably disappear in the next year or so. Presley’s new tricks are to clap when you say “clap” and give “high five”. She also dances anytime fun music is on, which is AWESOME! I will post pictures soon… It’s been crazy around here.

21 Days of Prayer

HPC is in the beginning of our 21 Days of Prayer series. There is a website that can be checked each day for devotionals about the readings that we are doing together. Under each day there is a section for readers to leave comments or thoughts, and I was touched by two things that have been shared there in these first two days of prayer.

Yesterday we read John 1, and here’s what super-spiritual, crazy for Jesus, fellow Africa-lover Sarah Andry noticed most about that chapter: John 1:5  says “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can NEVER extinguish it.”

I had completely read over that verse and didn’t even think twice, but I am so grateful she brought me back there! No matter what the world says, no matter how dark things seem to get, His light CANNOT be extinguished by the darkness! His light is ALWAYS brighter than anything we go through. Wow. I love that.

Today we read John 2, and here is what beautiful Jennifer Maggio’s hubby Jeff had to say about it: “The enemy tries to remind us daily of who we really are, but we only need to remind him of who our God really is, and Satan will flee like the coward he is….claim victory in the name of Jesus today!”

That’s such an awesome thought. I need to constantly remind myself and the enemy of who my God is. The devil does remind me constantly of my humanness, but I just pray that everytime he does, I can remember to tell him all about how huge my God is!

I am so excited to be kicking this year off with prayer and fasting. We have such massive expectations of what God’s going to do in our lives this year. We can’t do it alone- our dreams depend completely on Him and I am loving spending this time with my Father in Heaven.

My #1 Dream

Chris and I have big dreams. HUGE dreams. God-sized dreams. We have lots of them- child dreams, Africa dreams, financial dreams, accomplishment dreams, career dreams. You name it and and we got it. But I was thinking today about what my #1 dream is… That if nothing else in my life happens but this, I will still be ok. Here it is:

I know that I can’t change the world, but I will change the world for at least one child.

I dream that I change the world for millions of children- first the ones in my own home that God has trusted me with. But also for millions of orphans and unloved children worldwide. I truly believe that I was born to be a mom to lots of kids- black, white, Asian, biological, adopted, whatever. That purpose has given me such a feeling of unexplainable joy. And I pray that same joy and purpose spills out to every part of my life.

What’s your #1 dream? What are you believing God for? Are your dreams big enough? Are they ONLY possible if God’s involved?

The Matt’s Mantra 2009

This is our quote to live by this year.

“When you fear God and nothing else, you discover the freedom to pursue great adventure.”
Erwin McManus

This year is going to be a wild ride, so hold on tight! We will be closer to God than ever, and ain’t nobody gonna hold us down :)
