Just to Clear Things Up

Some people have inquired why we are adopting African kids rather than American kids, or European kids, etc. They have also wondered why we don’t use that money to help people in our own community. I just wanted to set the record straight.

1. If you know me, you know my heart for inner city kids. They have always been my first love. I served at HPC’s Donaldsonville Dream Center campus from it’s launch til it’s second birthday. We continue to serve at the Baton Rouge Dream Center whenever we can. We love it! We love the people in our backyard just as much as the people thousands of miles away.

2. We do give to American and Louisiana charities. We don’t broadcast how much or how often we do it. We just do it because we love God’s people and want to help them. I only say it now for context, and it is only by God’s grace over our finances that we are able to do so. He is our sole provider. Period.

3. Why we are adopting from Africa is simple: our kids are there. Some of our kids will come from my womb, and God has spoken to us that some are in Africa, so we gotta go get them! What an honor and blessing it is to us that we have been chosen to raise those children, and we don’t take it lightly.

We are so humbled and amazed at the support we have received from our family and friends, but even more overcome with emotion at the people who we barely know who want so badly to help us. Thank you to all of you! You are not just helping make our dreams a reality, but you are giving a couple of God’s children a chance at a better life.

While some people may not understand why Africa, just be happy that some neglected, starving, unwanted, abandoned kids are going to have a great home and a great life full of love.

We are in this journey together, and we are so grateful for your support!

Meghan, I think everyone who has ever adopted internationally has faced this same line of questioning. People are people; children all over the world are God’s children. It frustrates me when people think that Americans are more important to God! God orders the steps of each family on their journey to their children…just like He calls some in missions to minister internationally/ cross-culturally and some domestically. He doesn’t always call us to do what makes sense to others, or even what makes sense to us! LOL But I know that His ways are not our ways, and so we follow where He leads…even if that is on the other side of the world. Blessings from a sister in Christ who understands what it’s like to have a child far away that is just as real to your heart as the one you gave birth to!
