Lord, Give us Mercy… Literally

Mercy-

Today, I have a mission. You know that saying about how getting your eyes off your own problems brings major perspective? Well here’s some perspective for you today: Meet Mercy. She is a 4 year old girl in Uganda with a very rare brain condition called Dyke Davidoff Mason Syndrome. Her family abandoned her and she is now residing in the second orphanage of her young life. She is having major seizures every ten minutes. Her face is scarred and bruised. She’s losing teeth in the falls. She’s a beautiful little girl that those around her describe as being full of life.

This sweet angel is going through horrible, traumatic experiences, and yet has childlike faith- is full of life. Her name “Mercy” is no accident. Thinking of Presley in this situation rips my heart out.

This little girl needs us. The Body of Christ needs to unite and change the life of this child…

What can we do?

1. We can PRAY: Pray for the doctor, hospital, lab to come forward and donate whatever is needed for surgery. Or for someone to step up and pay for it. Pray also for a family to host her while she is in the hospital and during recovery. Pray for the airfare that will be needed to be provided. Ultimately, pray that God would be glorified through her precious life.

2. We can ACT: Call the hospitals in your area. Ask if anyone does pro-bono pediatric neurosurgery, or if they would do it at a discounted rate. Don’t give up. Plead for it as if she was your little girl.

3. We can GIVE: Give airline miles so she can travel to the States to have the work done. Give money towards the work or the flights.

4. We can TALK: Spread the word. You never know who will know the right person in the right position to help this sweet baby girl. Make phone calls. Send emails. Write tweets. Post on Facebook. Wouldn’t you talk it up like crazy if she was your daughter, your niece, or your neighbor?

If we can find a hospital in the region to do the work, we will host this little girl in a second! It’s my mission to find Mercy the help she needs before it is too late. It can be your mission, too. Do you choose to accept it?

  1. We have connections with lots of military families across the states…if you can find any hospital to help her, we can help you find a host family…will pray!

  2. YES! I’ll make some calls too and would love to host her too! I would be honored! Thank you for bringing this little girl to us and guiding us in how to help! Can you keep me posted?

  3. Thank you for posting this Meghan.

If anyone has any questions feel free to email me.

She had her MRI scans done recently. The doctors here say the only hope for her to get help is to go to a first world country for brain surgery. Uganda has no neurosurgeons. Her favorite song is Mighty to Save she thinks it’s about her “Everyone needs forgiveness / The kindness of a savior / let mercy fall on me.”

Thank you for praying for her. At the orphanage where she lives the children all ask to pray for her during prayers. They lift her life up to the God who is dear to the broken hearted. God’s will be done.

I know we have great hospitals here in Houston. I’d we can get a doctor here to do it, I would love to host her in our home.

  5. Lisa Darden

I’m in Colorado and we would LOVE to host… I’ll see if I can’t get a group of friends to help make the calls!!

update please! Did anyone find her a host or hospital yet?

  7. melanie

we would consider hosting her if children’s hospital here in WI would take her case..

  8. I posted this on my blog and the children’s home society forum. Hopefully the right eyes will see it. If a hospital in the Twin Cities will take her (MN), I’m sure we could be convinced to help with a place to stay.

  9. I passed this along on twitter and Facebook, and a friend said she’d mention it to her dad, whose GF works at Shriners’ hospital in Houston. Sounds like there’s a host offer in Houston in the comments above, so maybe that will all work out…

  13. We live in Birmingham, AL, right next to Children’s Hospital. I would gladly host, and I will look into making some calls…

Is there a number to give if the doctors need more information on her case? I will make some calls as well. If she comes to Iowa, you have many people who will host here! Keep us posted!

  15. I sent an inquiry to some doctor friends of mine who are in pediatrics. Maybe they know someone in neurology willing to do pro bono or discounted rate work. My friends work at a children’s teaching hospital, so there should be some other great doctors there… now, whether they’re willing to donate their skills might be another matter.

I sent this to my father who is envolved with a ministry in Africa. I have asked if this or a partnering ministry can provide any help. God Bless / Clay
