This morning I gave Moses his first bath. He didn’t know what to do with himself… He kept trying to stand up because they just get hosed off with cold water everyday. Once he sat down in that warm water, you couldn’t wipe the smile off his face! He had a blast… Then he got on his new clothes and shoes, and wow, you would have thought those shoes were made of gold!! Everywhere we went, he showed everyone his shoes. We left for our attorney’s office because my friend Jade and her son also had court today and hadn’t gotten briefed yet. I learned quickly that Moses doesn’t love sitting still. We waited about 20 minutes, then headed up to the courthouse. There we waited 20-30 minutes for our attorney to get there. Then we went to another part of the building, and waiting about 30-40 minutes for other cases to have stuff taken care of. Then we all got called in and Jade’s case got heard. So we waited… They had some minor complications, so I began to get nervous.
Then it was my turn… But of course, right when it was my turn, Moses decided he had enough of this sitting and waiting business. Luckily, he loves looking at pictures of himself and I have lots of those, so that held him over. Our case was presented without issue. I couldn’t read the judge at all, but he made no qualms about anything in my file, so I assume everything is good. We won’t know until next Friday what his ruling is, so now… we wait… again.
But today was a great day for me and Moses. I am learning all the little quirks about him, including this bouncing/shaking action he does when he has to “susu” (pee). I put a pull-up on him today so I wouldn’t have to worry in case of accidents, and boy did we come close! We were in the car and had just left the guest house when he started that shaking. We were a good 15 minutes away from the attorney’s office. I didn’t know if he even knew how to hold it… We get to the building and the ladies at the door don’t speak english, so I’m yelling “toilet toilet!!!” and pointing to Moses. They probably thought I was nuts. They show me to the bathroom and give me the key, but then the key didn’t work! After much hassle, we finally made it to the potty successfully- and he had held it the entire time. To some of you, this might seem crazy to harp on, but it was a big hurdle for us that I was concerned about, and we made it together. Our communication is good, and I love that. He talks A LOT (like his sister), and loves pointing everything out.
Now, during all those many minutes of waiting all day, Moses did test me. He pushed me. But overall, we laughed and played and had a great time. It was a good morning of bonding… It felt natural and easy. He loves me and I adore him. I pray that our love continues to grow by leaps and bounds each day.
When we got back to the orphanage, I had to change Moses out of his nice clothes and back into the communal stuff he wears everyday. I tried to prepare him for it, but I knew it had to be so confusing. It didn’t go well, but I let him keep his nice new shoes on, and that helped a lot. Then to get him to go back to class without a fuss, I told him he needed to show his teachers his new shoes, which he was thrilled about doing.
After lunch, I got him cleaned up and in bed for a nap. Now I am sitting at a hot spot on a hill overlooking Kampala. It’s a good day! We have a week until we get our ruling, so in that time I am going to try and get all the medical and birth certificate stuff done. Each day needs to have a purpose so I don’t go crazy… My frame of mind and emotions are MUCH better than last time. I have friends here who love Jesus and we encourage each other. I have my own room. I have purpose. I am bringing my boy home!!
Prayer requests:
*That the judge would rule favorably over our case, and that we would get both a verbal and written ruling next Friday (or sooner).
*That the medical testing would be smooth and clear.
*That Moses and I would continue to bond and learn each other, and that Presley’s heart would be comforted without her mommy.
*That my friends Jade, Salem and Amy’s cases would be finished quickly so they can get their kids home!

So glad all went OK! Was thinking about you guys all morning. Hoping everything with Jade’s case is alright. Heres our #: 078 560 5492

Wonderful news that everything went smoothly. I’m glad Moses was well behaved and didn’t have any potty accidents! Reading your blog is like reading a really good book that you just cannot put down! I probably check your blog a billion times a day, haha! We love and are praying for you (& Moses & Chris & Presley) and cannot wait till you are all together.
